José Canseco is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) outfielder and designated hitter. Canseco did not attend college, and was drafted in the 15th round by the Oakland Athletics in 1982. He made an immediate splash in 1986, his first full season, being named the American League’s Rookie of the Year after connecting on 33 home runs and 117 runs batted in. In 1988, Canseco became the first player in major league history to hit at least 40 homers and steal at least 40 bases in the same year. Canseco was unanimously named the American League’s Most Valuable Player in 1988, with a .307 batting average, 120 runs scored, 124 RBI, 42 home runs, and 40 stolen bases. David “Big Papi” Ortiz has been with the Boston Red Sox since 2003. David Ortiz is a five-time All-Star and holds the Red Sox single-season record for home runs with 54, set during the 2006 season.  Big Papi has been a Designated Hitter recently – with the depth of the Red Sox lineup and a nagging knee issue. David Ortiz only plays first for the few National League games on the schedule.

“CC” Sabathia currently pitches for the New York Yankees. CC Sabathia’s contract with the Yankees is the richest contract for a pitcher in the history of baseball, seven-years, $161 million. Prior to the Yankees, CC Sabathia was drafted in the first round (20th overall) by the Cleveland Indians in the 1998 MLB Draft, and played until 2007, winning the Cy Young that year.
